I have no idea how the first 11 days of 2012 has gone?! I have so many things to do but yet I have done nothing since Christmas!! Anyway, wish everyone a very happy new year and everything goes well in 2012!
My new year hasn't gone too well so far... my bank card was scammed then the bank cancelled my bank account. Then I smashed my car into the wall which nobody can believe. My boyfriend thinks I am an idiot and I think I am too... but doesn't matter how careful and slow you drive there's always some idiot on the road, therefore tonight someone hit the back of my car!!! Well... hopefully the bad luck will go away soon...

I love love love listening to Sigur Rós when I am very busy
Not only because they produce really good music but also I have no idea what they're singing about so I won't stop and sing with them.
But every time I listen to this song - Ára Bátur, I stopped whatever I am doing and listen. I have no idea why. It has some sort of power that makes you want to cry.
Today, again I am super busy working and this song came up again. I finally got a chance to google what they're singing about. I can't find anything else to describe this song but beautiful.

I am so happy today! I went to the Marrickville library this arvo to see whether they're willing to put a drop off box for the Color-Me-Pretty Competition and I was so lucky to meet Sue, the lady in charge of the library, and she's so supportive about our Creative Lane! Sue heard about Creative Lane from a knitting group at the library and she is more than happy to help us to put the poster up at the library, giving people the coloring competition and leaving the drop off box at the front door.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

She said there's a meeting room at the library and if we want to organize any workshop, we can use it for free!!! Oh My God!!! How lucky are we!! Very soon Creative Lane will organize with the Marrickville Library to offer some free workshop during school holiday as well! I can't wait to see Creative Lane getting one step forward and doing something different again!!!

The coloring competition will be soon distribute to local schools and libraries, if you're inner west resident and willing to help out, please drop me a line at suki@miao.com.au. As you know this event is aiming to helping local artists and getting people more involved with the art and craft, your help does make a difference to many people's lives. The 3rd Creative Lane will be a bit different than before! There will be a drawing/ colouring competition called Colour-Me-Pretty around the inner west communities’ schools and libraries. The 3rd Creative Lane will be on the 11 September 2011 from 10am to 3pm at Marrickville Townhall. This time the event will be a bit different than before. As I want the community to be more engaged with the idea of art and craft, there will be a little competition call "Color Me Pretty". It's basically a coloring competition for adults and kids (2 different groups), all the entries will be exhibit at the Marrickville Townhall front entrance on the event day. The winner will get their master piece printed on a t-shirt and a showbag as well! More details will be available next week. If you have any new ideas please feel free to drop me a line!

I can't believe two of my writing was picked by the Art $ About festival and will be exhibited as street banners for Art & About Sydney from 23 September to 23 October 2011. This is unbelievable!!!! I wrote to the festival just for the sake of writing. I didn't meant to do anything with it. I just want to write. I don't even know they'll be selected and print out!!!! This is so crazy!!! I am getting very excited/ nervous/ busy/ tired because Creative Lane is having its first Art and Craft festival in 2 weeks! I cannot believe it's coming so soon! If you're in Sydney on the 18th June, you HAVE TO come to Creative Lane at Marrickville Townhall! It's not only a market for artists to showcase their works, but most of the artists are organizing their own workshops to demonstrate their works to kids and adults! There're projects for you to make your own art works and transform it into your very own products! It's a free event and it's indoor! What's better to do in this rainy winter time? I've heard about this light show for so many years but I've never been to one before. Last night I was having a farewell dinner with my friends and we organized a small walk around the opera house and circular quay, and we saw this beautiful beautiful light show around the Opera House, MCA and the Rocks. It is SOOOO beautiful!!! It makes me completely fall in love with Sydney again, I reckon all the Sydneysiders should go and have a look. You'll regret it if you don't.

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother

I was reading the Time Magazine the other day and was very surprised to realize Amy Chua, the author of the book "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" is one of the 2011 most influential people in the world! Well, I haven't read the book myself but by the name of it I can imagine what it talks about. The Chinese/ Asian parenting method is always controversial, the non stop music lesson, maths lesson, drawing lesson, after school sports, screaming, scolding,etc etc, I was one of those kids who had lots of "lessons" after school but let me tell you, I was actually one of the lucky one, I heard one of my dad's friend's kid has 13 tutorials in one week!!!! And I think he/she's only in Primary school now... and when I asked my friends in Australia, none of them are having an "educational childhood" like mine. I don't know what kind of parents method will help you to raise a straight-A kid, but it seems to me that at the end of the day, there's no different between my friends and I.

This is my last week at this job. I am so excited about my new job which I am going to start after the Easter Break. Really really like everyone that I worked with except my boss, who is a total cow, and I am really glad that I am leaving. It's been a really tough year for me but I think I've learn a lot especially how to be a good person. I've learnt that there are still lots of good people out there. I am just very bad luck this time to work with someone like that. I am really hopeful for my new job, but I am more looking forward to my holiday.

Hunter Valley

My parents are here for a visit (for a month) and we went to Hunter Valley last week. I always like hunter valley. Compare to most of the tourists spots, I like Hunter Valley the most. It's just a bit different from the beaches and parks in the city. Anyway, this trip is a bit different, coz my dad left the key in the car while he played golf and we have to borrowed a harmer from the hotel and broke MY NEW CAR'S WINDOW to get the key back!!!!!! I was going to get NRMA but my dad said it would take them 2 hours to come here and at the end they may need to break the window, so why don't we break the window by ourselves....

Well, I don't mean to draw new fabric patterns especially I have heaps now and don't really have money to print new ones. I actually really need to draw some new poster for the AHA @ Marrickville event in June but for some reason when I really need to draw some posters I just keep drawing fabric patterns. Life is kind of weird isn't it. When I really need to draw fabrics last month, I can't think of any, but now, I don't need to draw it anymore, I just keep having new ideas. Sometimes it sucks.

I bought this book at a second hand book shop sale, a $29.95 book selling at 12 and now mark down to $2. Unbelievable! Can't imagine how much extra I paid for all the books that on my book shelf!
Anyway, really really like this book. Very funny. I laughed my head off by reading the first 20 pages. Can't wait to read more! This is the most worthy $2 I've ever spent!!

this google app store is really cool!!! most of the app are free, although you can't put the apps in iphone but there are so many cool apps you should check out!
I think this one particular called Grooveshark, it's just like itune but you don't have to pay and download the songs! How cool!!! OMG... I am now so addicted to the google app... i guess I'll have a spend a bit more internet usage this month....

Google is truely amazing! It has just launched its new project called Art Project, which is like a showcase of museums around the world! You can see the art works and "walk around" the museums as well... how insane! I actually just came back from the NSW art gallery this arvo and now I realized there's no point to go to gallery and museums anymore coz you can actually see them online! Goosh... Let's keep an eye on it coz I can't wait to see more contemporary art museums update.

We experienced the hottest day in records in the city, 42 degree yesterday and till this morning, it's still bloody hot and all of the sudden, at around 3-ish, the weather changed and now it's only 19 degree! Actually this pattern wasn't inspired by the Chinese new year (year of rabbit) but some random sticky tape that I saw. After I drew it, I thought, oh it's actually matched the Chinese New Year theme. Well, anyway, I checked the New Year book and it said I'll be very lucky in terms of work and love and money! Finger crossed for them!

It's been the 6th days we have extreme hot weather in Sydney. It's unbelievable. It's so hot that you don't even want to go to the beach! It's 6pm and it's still 40 degree out there. I can feel the heat sneaking in from the door gap! You feel burnt if you're outdoor, and you feel drunk if you're indoor, its's crazy...
